Young Women Speak out at CSW
“While there is no doubt that care giving conveys rewards, it has huge costs for girls and young women, such as time, energy, lack of access to education, lack of secure employment and social marginalisation.” These strong words spoken by Miriam Otieno, a Kenyan Girl Guide, on behalf of the CSW Youth Organisation Caucus were delivered to the 53rd CSW session on March 3, 2009.
Beyond Shelter - World YWCA discuss strategies to prevent violence against women at CSW
“How many people know a relative or close friend who has experienced violence?” asked World YWCA General Secretary Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda to over 70 participants attending an interactive side event at the 53rd CSW session hosted by the World YWCA.
Girls Go Green at CSW
As the fifty-third session of the United Nation’s Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) gets underway, World YWCA and the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) are ensuring the voices of young women are heard throughout the event. An evaluation of last year’s CSW revealed young women did not feel they had sufficient space to network, deliberate and strategise during the two-week long session, thus limiting their participation.
World YWCA to explore roles of women and men in caregiving in the context of HIV and AIDS at CSW
A World YWCA delegation is on the way to New York City to participate in the fifty-third session of the United Nation’s Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) from March 2-13, 2009 at the United Nations headquarters. This year’s main theme is “The equal sharing of responsibilities between women and men, including caregiving in the context of HIV/AIDS”.
