In the advocacy work of the YWCAs and YMCAs, we strive for peace with justice. This year’s Week of Prayer seeks to help our movements reflect positively on leadership needed for change.

Two Bible readings from the Old Testament and the New Testament will accompany us this week.

The Old Testament story features The Daughters of Zelophehad as leaders for change (Numbers 27, 36 and Joshua 17) These five brave women stood up for their rights and challenged the inheritance laws of their time. Their story provides us with an example of how we can be leaders of change in challenging injustice in our communities.

The worship service for the week captures Jesus’ radical command that to be an agent of change requires extraordinary and revolutionary behaviour such as loving ones enemies and not pursuing revenge, even when one is wronged. (Matthew 5: 43-48). The focus is leading change through loving our enemies.
