The YWCA of Taiwan supports its sisters in Japan
In the immediate aftermath of the tremendous earthquake and tsunami that destroyed Japan’s coastline, the YWCA of Taiwan began to raise funds to support its sisters in Japan. Less than two months after the earthquake, the YWCA of Taiwan was able to raise and transfer USD 104, 472.24 to the YWCA of Japan.
The support received from Taiwan has been a great boost to the YWCA of Japan. The YWCA of Japan currently offers counselling support to the survivors and it executes other on-site support in the Fukushima and Miyagi prefectures. The YWCA of Japan will shortly be issuing a report on the progress made in affected areas. Tomoko Negishi, International Relations Officer of the YWCA of Japan, expressed her thanks to the YWCA of Taiwan’s contribution: “Thank you for your work, thoughts and prayers.”
In a letter to the YWCA of Japan, Ping Lee, General Secretary of the YWCA of Taiwan and Vice President of World YWCA, said “We know that the YWCA of Japan has worked so hard for the relief and aid efforts after the earthquake and tsunami disasters. May God bless you and give you strength. Even though we can not work with you side by side in Japan, in our deepest heart we support you and stand with you in every way.”
