YWCA Supports Disaster Victims in El Salvador
Since October 1, 2005 when the Ilamatepec (Santa Ana) volcano erupted in El Salvador, the YWCA has been working tirelessly to respond to the immediate needs of affected communities, bringing volunteer labour, as well as food, blankets, and other emergency supplies. The situation has been aggravated by torrential rains from Hurricane Stan’s passage through the region, which caused flooding, landslides and many deaths. The death toll has reached 54 with approximately 50,000 people displaced.
