Australian Government Invests $96.4 million on Women
The World YWCA welcomes and congratulates the government of Australia on its visible leadership in advancing the rights and empowerment of women and girls, as reflected in its recent budget statement.
The focus on violence against women enables communities, countries and partners to address the root causes of violations, women's marginalisation and disempowerment; while enabling women to be leaders in finding long term solutions that secure their rights and well-being.
There can be no progress unless women's full potential is unleashed, and this demands an investment in safe, secure, and supportive environments, policies and communities.
The World YWCA values its on-going partnership with the government of Australia that will be enabling and building an inter-generational, shared and transformative leadership of women, and especially young women, in 10 Asian and Pacific Countries in the next four years. The forthcoming International Women’s Summit (IWS) to be hosted by the World YWCA in July 2011, will be an opportunity to continue to advance these issues.
