Movement Building and Leadership Pre-Council
On July 11, 2011, approximately 300 women leaders from our movement will be coming together for a one-day transformative leadership for women’s rights skills building.
The Leadership Pre-Council will be an opportunity to share knowledge and best practices, and encourage one another to be affirmed, challenged and ambitious – you will not leave disappointed! We will celebrate our leaders and discuss what transformative leadership is from a personal and professional perspective.
The aim of the Pre-Council is to facilitate a capacity and skills building programme which strengthens the YWCA’s institutional and leadership capacity to empower a diverse group of YWCA women leaders to realise their rights and to create a safe world for women and girls in their communities.
The Pre-Council will strengthen institutional and leadership abilities to implement goals and strategies for change, and it will introduce the human rights based approach in order to realise women’s rights. It is an opportunity to affirm and update skills and knowledge in developing sustainable leadership and building a strong organisation. Delegates will have access to new tools and mechanisms to promote and advance the status of women, young women and girls and to strengthen solidarity within the movement and with partners. Participants will be prepared, confident and energised to actively contribute and interact in the International Women’s Summit and World Council.
The core content of the Pre-Council will focus on transformative leadership as an essential aspect of the World YWCA’s work, taking an intergenerational approach and the active participation of women, young women and girls as decision makers and agents of change. Another aspect of the Pre-Council will be to understand human rights and results based approaches and its implications for our daily work. Good governance and best practices is the third core component of the Pre-Council, and monitoring and evaluation and succession planning will form a key focus of this session.
The programme will be participatory, with a combination of plenary sessions and interactive workshops. The one-day event will be inspirational and it will encourage participants to reflect upon their role as leaders and to affirm, reflect and challenge their leadership.
