World YWCA attends 42nd session of CEDAW
The 42nd session of the Convention of the Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) is taking place in Geneva, Switzerland from October 20 – November 7.
European Representative Meeting to discuss women migrants in Europe
Over 80 women and young women will gather in Arhus, Denmark for the European Representative Meeting (ERM) from October 14-19. The week long meeting will focus on ‘ Women on the Move: Women Migrants in Europe’ and will be an opportunity for member associations across Europe to discuss issues facing women and girl migrants in their countries.

World YWCA Board members have gathered in Geneva, Switzerland for the World Board meeting held from October 6-9, 2008. As part of the business agenda, World Board members had the opportunity to take part in a skills building session on ‘Raising Funds’ with Bonnie Lou Fatio, World YWCA ambassador and author of ‘Age Esteem’.

World YWCA Board commits to strengthen work on violence against women and HIV and AIDS in preparation for World Council 2011
The World YWCA Board, representing women leaders from diverse walks of life, came together from October 6-10, 2008 in Geneva, Switzerland. The World Board deliberated extensively on the theme for the next YWCA World Council 2011, building on the work of the movement in the previous and current quadrennium which has continued to centre on providing services to communities, responding to HIV and AIDS, and building the leadership of young women.

Le Comité exécutif mondial, composé de femmes leaders de différents horizons, s’est rencontré la semaine du 6 au 10 octobre à Genève, en Suisse. L’occasion d’une délibération intense sur le choix du thème du prochain Conseil mondial 2011, construit sur la base du travail du mouvement lors du quadriennal présent et antérieur à savoir : l’apport de services au sein des communautés, la riposte au VIH et SIDA et le développement du leadership des jeunes femmes.

La Junta Directiva de la YWCA Mundial, que representa a mujeres líderes de diversos horizontes, se reunió en Ginebra, Suiza, desde el 6 al 10 de octubre de 2008. La Junta Directiva deliberó ampliamente sobre el tema para el próximo Consejo Mundial 2011, basándose sobre el trabajo del movimiento en los cuadrienios pasados y el actual que ha continuado centrándose en la provisión de servicios a las comunidades, respuesta a situaciones relacionadas con el VIH y SIDA, y desarrollo del liderazgo de las mujeres jóvenes.
YWCA Week Without Violence: Women’s Rights are Human Rights
Today marks the beginning of the YWCA Week without Violence, an annual campaign launched in 1995 that takes place on the third week of October. World YWCA General Secretary, Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda issued out a message to the movement as YWCAs around the world commemorate the week by organising events that seek to encourage individuals and communities to act towards a world free of violence.
