Celebration of Life and Prayer for Peace with Justice in Colombia
Yesterday (July 2, 2008), Ingrid Betancourt, 11 other Colombian hostages and three Americans, who have been held in the Colombian jungle for up to ten years, were rescued and freed.
We celebrate life with Ingrid Betancourt, the other hostages and their families, and rejoice with the prophet Isaiah when he says, “For you shall go out in joy, and be led back in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall burst into song, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Instead of the thorn shall comp up the cypress; instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle; and it shall be to the Lord for a memorial, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off” (Isaiah 55: 12-13)
As we celebrate this liberation, we continue to pray for those women, men and children who are still hostages and detained, in Colombia and in other countries around the world.
As a YWCA movement, our mission is to continue to pray and work for peace with justice, so that “the wolf and the lamb shall feed together, (….) they shall not hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain” (Isaiah 65: 25)
