World YWCA Power to Change Fund 2010-2011: Call for applications
The first round for the World YWCA Power to Change Fund 2010-2011 is open! The Power to Change Fund uses interest gained from the Leadership Permanent Fund to endow YWCA development programmes for women and girls worldwide.
The Power to Change Fund is used as a re-granting mechanism from the World YWCA to YWCAs globally. Grants have gone to 20 member associations for a total of $247, 850 and the Fund has contributed to leadership training of individual women and girls and global advocacy and policy influencing actions throughout the YWCA movement.
One of the three goals in the YWCA of Belarus Strategic Plan 2009-2013 is ‘Eliminating domestic violence in Belarus’. Through the Power to Change Fund, the YWCA will advocate for the adoption of a law on domestic violence, working collaboratively with other organisations. The campaign will adopt a range of actions that include advocacy, lobbying and raising awareness. The YWCA of Belarus believe that decreasing the number of domestic violence cases can be achieved through such strategic interventions and addressing issues such as trafficking and existing gender inequalities.
“The Power to Change Fund is all about investing in women’s power to change and we can start to see the impact women’s leadership can make in making our world a better place for everyone,” says World YWCA General Secretary Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda.
Stringent guidelines and application procedures are in place and all member associations can apply. The application deadline for the Power to Change Fund is March 31, 2010.
