World YWCA bids farewell to young women leaders
The 2009 World YWCA interns, Moo Moo Hsoe from YWCA of Myanmar and Andrea Núñez Argote from YWCA of Mexico are set to return home after a year at the World YWCA. During the year, Moo Moo worked with the Communications Department while Andrea contributed to the World YWCA advocacy efforts. Moo Moo and Andrea share with us their thoughts on what this year as interns represented for them.
Andrea
Living in Geneva as a World YWCA intern has been one of my most fruitful and enjoyable experiences. It has allowed me to grow in innumerable ways while broadening my perspectives enormously.
I have learnt many things, especially regarding the YWCA movement. I realised the challenges and hard work women around the world face yet overcome in their commitment to create a safer world. It is amazing what women’s power can attain.
I have had many wonderful moments including the internship retreat, the Witness Visit to Palestine and the
World YWCA Board Meeting. All gave me knowledge and experience, and highlighted that the women involved in these events are working tirelessly to change the situation in their communities. It gives me courage and conviction to continue working and sharing information to other women and girls in order to improve our communities.

I have always wanted to work for an international organisation so the opportunity to be an intern at the World
YWCA was a dreamcome true.
The Asia and Pacific YWCAs Regional Training Institute was very exciting for me. I was a co-facilitator at the Young Women’s Leadership Dialogue. I had an amazing chance to meet sisters from the region and learn from them. After the RTI, we participated at the 9th International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific which widened my knowledge on HIV and AIDS.
This internship is an eye opening experience for me and changed me into a professional young woman. I gained confidence to work with people from around the world in terms of negotiating, sharing and networking.
I hope we keep our commitment to building young women’s leadership. Let’s keep YWCAs young and vibrant. Young women are the leaders of today, not just tomorrow.
The World YWCA is delighted to announce the young women chosen to participate in the 2010 Young Women Leadership programme as one-year interns. Next year, 21 year old Ravicka Phillip from the YWCA of Grenada and 23 year old Kuena Diaho from the YWCA of Lesotho will join and spend one year working at the world office in Geneva, Switzerland.
During this time, the two young women will be exposed to a variety of leadership and skills trainings and represent the World YWCA at the United Nations and at NGO events and working groups. The internship will also include programme development, advocacy, communications, and financial development.
