On November 29, the World YWCA and its member association, the YWCA of Palestine, marked the annual International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. The two organizations called on individuals globally to observe the day, and asked the international community to take action to end the Israeli occupation of Palestine to help build a sustainable future for all.

Every year, a representative from the World YWCA reads a joint statement on behalf of both organisations at the United Nations in Geneva.

This year, in a historic and very special moment, a young Palestinian woman  read the statement. Amany Abu Awad from YWCA of Palestine, the long-term Communications Intern at the World YWCA office, represented “the voices of young Palestinian people, especially young women, who have been destined to live the same life” under occupation.
