The one-year Internship Programme (January – December 2012) will provide opportunities to develop skills in advocacy, especially in the area of violence against women, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), HIV and AIDS and peace with justice. The internship also represents an excellent opportunity for a young woman interested in the communications field by assisting in a various range of communications projects, including media relations, message development, publications, writing articles, updating the website, event management and planning, and managing social media.

Experiences will include:

  • Training opportunities in leadership development, programme development and advocacy work

  • Opportunities to work with national associations particularly in her region and possibly a visit to another national association during the year

“The World YWCA Young Women’s Internship Programme is intended to increase the number of globally experienced and trained leaders who will return to their associations to share their experiences and learning with as well as provide leadership for increased and improved understanding of what the world movement is all about," says World YWCA General Secretary Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda.

The one-year Internship Programme  provides a special opportunity for two young women, to work as part of the World YWCA staff and volunteer team in Geneva. “We are particularly seeking applicants with interest and experience in advocacy and communications around the key priorities of the World YWCA including human rights, sexual and reproductive health and HIV & AIDS, and violence against women. Interns need to have strong organisational skills, ability to work well in teams and to juggle multiple priorities," says Gumbonzvanda.

The Short–term/Advocacy Internship will see up to four young women selected to participate at either the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York, sessions of the CEDAW Committee and UN Human Rights Council in Geneva or other international forums.
