Who can apply? In order to apply, you need to be a young woman or girl, aged 30 years and below, and an active members of your YWCA’s for at least 2 years (see also Desired Skills, below).

Background: A  Young Women’s Leadership Policy was adopted at the World Council in 2015. It includes the creation of a Young Women’s Task Force which will advise on the implementation of the Vision 2035 goal.

Location: Global

Duration: 2 years

Timeframe: November/December 2016 – 2019

Specific objectives

  • Engage the young women and girls in the YWCA movement so as to advise on and monitor progress towards the Envisioning 2035 goal within 2016 – 2019
  • Report and make recommendations to the World Board, and organs of the YWCA movement, to take to World Council
  • Develop a roadmap to 2035, with a specific focus on the working methods, sustainability of the YWTF and the role of young women and girls in achieving the 2035 Envisioning Goal.
  • Represent the YWCA movement in various YWCA processes and spaces (as requested) and other activities to the fullest extent possible

Task Force Responsibilities

  • Strong commitment to and understanding of the World YWCA’s; core beliefs; constitution; young women’s leadership; intergenerational leadership; transformative leadership; and commitment to diversity
  • A working knowledge and commitment to the World YWCA’s Envisioning 2035 Goal
  • Expertise and/or experience in the following areas;, young women’s leadership and development, human rights with a focus on women’s rights, sexual and reproductive health and rights(SRHR) & HIV; economic empowerment; ICT; violence against women and girls (VAW/g); peace and justice; conflict resolution; and any other related fields in line with the World YWCA Strategic priorities.
  • Be able to identify, articulate and prioritize the issues, topics and challenges affecting the implementation of the Envisioning 2035 goal
  • Assist the YWCA movement to better determine best approaches to reaching and engaging with young women and girls in the YWCA movement and to implementing the Envisioning 2035 goal
  • Subject-matter experts who consult with a broad group of young women and girls
  • Ability and commitment to liaise with young women in their region
  • Knowledge leaders who can support the YWCA movement in a variety of ways and expand the organization’s reach and influence
  • Strive to ensure connection of YWTF to the mission, strategy and objectives of the World YWCA and the 2016 – 2019 strategic framework

Desired Skills

  • An understanding of the dynamics and working methods of YWCA movement
  • A strong leader with experience in leadership, management, and/or youth development.
  • Demonstrated interest in human rights, gender equality, health, leadership and women/human rights.
  • Experience in program design, implementation and monitoring and evaluation
  • Experience in resource mobilization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work independently and take consultative approaches where applicable.
  • Ability to work well with a diverse team
  • Excellent writer
  • Must have command of either English, French or Spanish languages. Must be able to work well in English (oral and written).
  • Good communication skills and a good working knowledge of ICT


This is an unpaid volunteer position. All costs related to travel will be covered by the World YWCA.  In some cases where technology use is a challenge consideration will be given to supporting accessibility.
